FIFA 10 (360) - Cert 3
This years iteration of the FIFA football series, brings in a new 360 degree dribbling technique which is something that no other football game has attempted. Does it work? Well yes it does, and it is quite intuitive. For someone that has not played FIFA since the 97 version on the PC, this version is considerably ahead of that one.The graphics are great, the gameplay is superb and there are so many games modes to get stuck in to that it will take you until FIFA 11 to figure them all out. The "Be A Virtual Pro" has got to be one of the best features in this genre of game that I have ever seen. To be able to pick you favourite team and then to add your own player is a marvel. Couple this with being able to use the Gameface function on the EA football website and you can have yourself in the game. Now "Be A Virtual Pro" can be played either as you controlling your one dedicated team member or you can choose to control the whole squad. I chose to control just my player as it made it easier and less frantic. You can also choose to play the game or simulate the outcome, again I chose to play the game unless I was injured during a match and then the next 2 games had to be simulated.Playing different shots, dribbles and passing unlock achievements in-game which give you better skills and abilities, those for a novice, these are sometimes very hard to pull off. Other than this mode, there are the online games modes which include, 1 vs 1, 5 vs 5 and 10 vs 10 all pretty self explanatory. EA have also included a Football Manager style gaming mode, which provides the gamer with all the tools to getting their team from the bottom of the league to the top. I have not ventured in to the games mode territory at present. Live Season 2.0 will offer the ability for live stats relating to various world leagues including the Premiership. This means that you can play the exact same teams that your real-life club will face in the 2009/2010 fixtures. This feature is broken at the moment and EA are working on a patch to fix it. The video / movie feature enables you to capture that goal, or that miss and also allows you to swap camera angles, slow the action down or speed it up, which all in all gives a great trailer like finish to your football finesse. Some minor gripes about the FIFA 10 experience. When playing the monotony of the games commentators does start to gnaw quite quickly. Often the spiel that is given is wrong. This is not a patch on the commentary from the Fight Night Round 4 game which was both entertaining and enthralling. The referee gets in the way of the ball action far to much. The referee has a tendancy to let a match play on and then decides to produce a card shortly afterwards, which not only annoys but also slows the fast paced game action down. I give this title 9/10 it should be a 10/10 but not until the few niggles have been patched. |
