IL2 Sturmovik - Birds of Prey (360) - Cert 15
Have you ever wanted to be a fighter pilot in the Second World War? Now you can with various mission based on real life experiences you can fly famous planes for the American, British and Russian military. You start off as a British pilot who is a new recruit and you get to fly a MK II Spitfire, first mission being the removal of incoming German fighters and Bombers that as threatening good old blighty. This game leads you by the hand with many tutorials showing you how to best control the different planes and how to become a dab hand at bombing runs and using missiles for some of the later missions that you will encounter. At times objectives can be quite confusing as one mission we had to do time and time again as we were not entirely sure what we were suppose to be protecting or destroying. The graphics are some of the best we have witnessed on the XBOX 360, with perfect representation of the White Cliffs of Dover, so much so you feel as though you are actually there. Play can get a little sluggish when you are dispensing with enemy fighters and it seems as though the console struggles when there are more than 6 fighters being destroyed and burning up in the sky. New DLC is now available, which adds a few new planes. Day missions and Night missions are both covered adequately and will see your skills tested to the max. You can also turn the arcade flying mode off and turn the game in to a real simulator, though we never dared do this as we found it hard enough on the arcade mode. So if you are looking for a game that offers something different in terms of flying and fighting then we would highly recommend this title. There is a multiplayer XBOX Live mode which sees you dogfighting with fellow pilots, but we decided not to venture in to this as the single player campaign was more than enough to keep us entertained. 7/10 |
