Halo 3 ODST (360) - Cert 18
The package comes with 2 disks. 1) Halo 3 ODST which comprises of a short but admirable campaign and also the Firefight multiplayer / co-op which see you and up to 3 other players joined in a battle with the convenant that increases in intensity and ferocity the more that you play. 2) Halo 3 Multiplayer which is exactly that the full Multiplayer part of Halo 3 which has the full 24 maps including the 3 new bonus maps that come with ODST Review: OK so the first thing you'll want to try out is the Firefight game mode that has been shown plenty of times on various gaming and video websites. You have a choice of 6 maps to play and they are pretty big compared to the Halo 3 multiplayer maps. You start of with a supressed SMG machine gun and the trusty Halo Pistol (which never runs out of ammo), but which has to be dropped at some stage so that you can pick up other more powerful weapons e.g. Rocket Launcher, Plasma Rifle, Pink Needler. The Battle Rifle has been removed from this game as developers thought that it was far too powerful for the purpose of this games mode.Firefight comprise of Games, Rounds and Sets. There are 5 games to a round and 3 rounds to a set. There are 10 sets in total so you are looking at 150 games all in. The average round i.e. 5 games takes between 20 minutes to 40 minutes depending on how many people you have working with you. Each game gets progressingly harder with more differing types of enemies to combat with. There are over 10 different types to contend with. Also comes in to play the skulls system which there are 10 and these are enabled at the start of each set. The skulls make the enemies even more invincible and harder to dispense with. You can use your VISR which will outline any enemies in red, this comes in handy for the more cloaked / invisible foes that you get to battle with quite early on. There are plenty of achievements to unlock and the Firefight game will keep players entertained for quite some time we suspect. The Halo franchise doesn't appeal to everyone, but there again the same can be said for the Call Of Duty fanchise. We had difficulty with getting in to the Halo 3 gameplay when it was first released, but can safely say that we have not had the same trouble with ODST. The campaign can be played again either on your own or with up to 4 players via co-op (this is limited to 2 players if playing on the same console). The campaign offers a more stealthy approach to the Halo world where secrets and clues have to be unveiled so that you can progress further down the storyline. This doesn't mean that there are not many battles as again these can become somewhat intense and at times you hardly have time to take your next breath as another wave of assault is thrust upon you. There are 5 different levels of play for the Halo 3 ODST game and most like to play Heroic or Legendary. Starting out we would suggest that you stick with Normal as it has the right mix of play for a new player to get accustomed to very quickly. Heroic and Legendary are for advanced and skilled players and we failed drastically in the Firefight rounds on both these levels. Overall the presentation is superb, graphics are not a vast improvement over Halo 3, but gameplay is. A lot of the campaign seems to be played out in dark areas and so the VISR will be needed to spot those clues and lurking enemies. Well done Bungie for producing yet another Halo title that offers some of the best play that we have seen so far this year. We give this title 9/10 |
