Prototype Review (PC) |

We had this title originally preordered for the 360, but decided that after the non inclusion of any online multiplayer activity that it would be an ashame to commit at the initial market price. So we have decided that we will review this game on the PC platform. So here goes. You are playing Alex Mercer who may be or may not be dead. (The jury is out on that one at the moment). You start off on the first mission which is a guide to learning the combat and movement systems which are quite intuitive on the keyboard and mouse setup. Once you have accomplished the first task of learning how to dispense with the army troops and their vehicles you then learn that you are able to "consume" people, which still "kills" them but gives your character their skills and knowledge its a bit like The Matrix in one way. Also when consuming key characters you unlock memories that go to helping you understand better what has happened to you and who has done this to you. Ultimately its a revenge filled frenzy which can be played either by making your way to the missions that are highighted on your HUD or you can go down the Free Roam the City option so you can discover at your own pace. We decided to try a few of the missions and were quite impressed in the non-linear way that missions could be accomplished. The running up the sides of buildings is really well put together, the odd cut scene can be skipped but its best to watch if you want to understand the true story behind your character. Graphics are not too bad, the views from the high rise skyscrapers are pretty awesome and the leaps that can be achieved are pretty spectacular. The landing can be hard, but doesn't seem to do you any damage to you. The missions grant you EP once completed which can be used to buy new abilities or upgrade current ones. We like this title but feel that without any form of multiplayer this game will become boring quite quickly. For that reason we give it a rating of 7/10
